Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers love their key fob's handy remote that comes with features. They can lock and unlock their vehicle, start the motor, and even locate it using a smartphone application.
Place the fob's face up on an uncluttered surface. Locate the button that releases it, wedge a coin between the fob and the cover and pull it up gently.
Unlocking the Door
Volvo's remote key fobs are able to unlock the doors, tailgate and the flap that holds the fuel filler of your vehicle with a touch of one button. They also can switch on the ignition, activate the alarm, and even operate your sunroof, if it's equipped. You'll never have to search for your keys, or get locked out of your vehicle.

Keep your key fob in place with the Volvo logo facing upwards to press the manual lock/unlock. Find the black button which is near the edge of the body of the key fob and gently press it to open a cover that houses a manual key blade. The cover can be flipped clockwise using a flathead, or coin.
Starting the Engine
Modern Volvo key fobs provide a level of convenience and functionality unmatched by traditional manual keys. Press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof, should you have one. When you're done with your vehicle, you can shut all windows by pressing the lock button again for four seconds.
You can also use the key fob to trigger your car's panic alarm. It will emit an alarm that is loud and attention-grabbing that could frighten away thieves and help you get home safely after a long night out. This feature can be very useful when you live in a neighborhood that is prone to crime or you want to safeguard your family members while they are away.
Opening the Tailgate
Volvo has loaded its key fob with variety of useful features. They are great if you have your hands full with shopping, or helping your children take their sports gear home after practice.
For example, if you have the available Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped), you can open it by using the key fob. You can open the liftgate by pressing the button, and then close it using the same button.

Turning off the Alarm
Modern key fobs are much more useful than a traditional car key. However, they're not able to work completely for a long time, and the batteries eventually go out of service. It is possible to program your key fob at your home if you are in a rush or don't have time to go to the store.
Set out your key fobs, batteries, and extra keys on a clean surface. Place the key fob in a place with the Volvo logo facing upwards Then, locate a small black button at the left-hand side of the fob. Slide it down and to the right. The cover should loosen and fall off, revealing the mechanical key blade underneath.
The key fob's unlock button two times quickly, and you will be able to open all doors and the tailgate. The lock button will also close the sunroof and windows (if fitted) by pressing it for 2 seconds. Connect the battery and the alarm will stop.
